Volunteer of the Month- February 2025

Claudia Pateras

πŸ‘πŸ€©Β Congratulations to our latest volunteer of the month for February, Claudia! Claudia’s smiles and fun stortyime animations bring the children much happiness and joy with every reading. Here is what she has to say about her experience:

“I became a volunteer at minibiblioPLUS last summer when looking for opportunities to read to children. I was delighted to discover this wonderful organization that allowed me to share my passion of reading, just as I had done with my nephews when they were little. It was one of my favorite activities with them: to delve into new worlds and bring them alive with different voices and sound effects, and to witness the joy, laughter and wonder that it brought them. Those were special moments that every child should experience.

My volunteer sessions at a local daycare have been so much fun. It’s very gratifying and touching to see how happy and excited the children are for story time. And the staff members are amazing and very welcoming. It’s been a wonderful experience that I hope others will explore. I want to thank everyone at minibiblioPLUS for their kindness and support, and to underline the amazing job that they’re doing to support literacy in children, which is extremely important for the development in all facets of their lives, and which will help open doors both personally and professionally.”Β

“My favourite part of volunteering with minibiblioPLUS is that I get to share my love of reading with the kids. The support from the team at the library is amazing, it makes volunteering really easy. I know the daycare is really glad to have us come in to read once a week. The children’s enthusiasm makes my day and never fails to put a smile on my face. Sunshine and Storytime – Summer 2024

In response to the growing demand for outreach projects within the CDN-NDG community and encouraged by the success of our summer 2023 Storytime in the Parks project, the Fraser Hickson Institute launched the SUNSHINE AND STORYTIME project in collaboration with CDN-NDG libraries. The project aims to bring early literacy activities and storytime to parks, particularly in areas far from a public library or identified as vulnerable for children aged 0-8, helping instill in them a love for reading and learning. This project also raised awareness of the wealth of services offered by CDN-NDG public libraries and encouraged families to visit their local libraries more often.

Thus, over ten weeks this summer, children were welcomed to ten municipal parks in CDN-NDG to enjoy stories in the sun twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday morning. The project was a resounding success, with 16 sessions successfully organized and the participation of a remarkable 948 children from the community participating
