It was such a pleasure to welcome our partners to the Fraser Hickson Library and #sharetheloveofreading. Partners collected books for the children, helping them continue on their reading journeys during the Winter holidays. We are thrilled with all that we have accomplished, despite these challenging times, in collaboration with our partners and the support of our donors. And a huge thank you to our volunteers: Wanessa, Stephanie, Madeleyn, Jacqueline and Nina! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Our literacy challenge — particularly the importance of early learning initiatives — should be a national priority, write Celine Cooper and Asha Dixit of the Fraser-Hickson Institute, Montreal Gazette.

“Research suggests the COVID crisis has not only increased inequities in literacy rates but will lead to deficits in student learning. Closing the literacy gap is both a vital pandemic challenge and a generational opportunity.”

In recognition of International Literacy Day this week, we share this piece by the President of our Board of Governors, Celine Cooper and our ED Asha Dixit, on why all federal leaders should make literacy promotion, especially early learning initiatives, a national priority.
